Heya Desai

Western University

Medical Sciences

Hi, I'm Heya Desai, a second-year Medical Sciences student at Western University, aspiring to become a physician-scientist! My first year at university taught me more about myself than I ever expected, presenting a steep learning curve as I navigated the academic transition from high school to university. This experience unveiled new interests and taught me valuable skills. Living with Type 1 Diabetes since age 7, I've recognized the critical roles that nutrition, fitness, and sleep play in maintaining my well-being. At university, I've continued to prioritize my mental and physical health, seeing them as essential to enhancing my academic performance. I've had the opportunity to join a recreational hip-hop team, serve as an executive for Western's diabetes association, and started training as an undergraduate researcher at a digital epidemiology and population health lab last summer—each experience emphasizing the importance of pursuing various interests to build a fulfilling university life, both in and out of the classroom! I'm excited to help you think about how you can build a lifestyle that enables you to thrive in every dimension of university life and navigate the challenges you may encounter as you start the next journey of your lives!
